A steel replacement barrel for the Umarex HDR50/TR50 does not automatically require shaped projectiles instead of round balls. Z-RAM's answer to that specific question included round balls. The important distinction is between projectile shape and the exact physical fit of the projectile in the actual barrel and drum.
Round is a shape, not a complete compatibility specification
“Round ball” describes the form of the projectile. Rubber, nylon and aluminum identify different materials; .50 identifies a nominal caliber family. None of those labels, on its own, states the exact dimensions of every product sold under it.
This is why changing the barrel does not create a simple rule that all round balls are unsuitable—or that all round balls still fit. The original question's shape choice can be answered without promising that an unspecified rubber or rigid ball matches every replacement-barrel version.

It does not give a dedicated dimensional approval for the exact steel barrel shown below. Both are useful examples of round-ball products; their listings must not be turned into a blanket approval for an unverified barrel-and-projectile pairing.
Why this answer does not prescribe one ball diameter
The current HDR50 steel-barrel description and older product-specific support information do not provide a consistent diameter basis for a universal rigid-ball recommendation. Confirm the dimensions for your actual barrel version before selecting a rigid projectile; do not choose between conflicting figures or force a projectile that does not fit.
