Umarex HDR50/TR50 Part 2: Z-Extension performance tests
Z-RAM presents this video on the YouTube channel. Today is the announced Part 2 of how to achieve 35 J with 12 g CO2. If you have not seen Part 1 yet, Z-RAM recommends watching it first. It will link the video in the information box above.
In Part 1, the valve block and restrictor were removed. Z-RAM then showed how to adjust the housing of your HDR50 so that you can mount the Z-Extension. Now it is time to go to the chronograph and look at the results of the HDR50 without the valve block and restrictor. Further upgrades will then be made step by step so you can see the difference the Z-Extension makes and what you can do to increase performance further.
Please note that the methods shown here are not allowed in every country. You have to find out for yourself what is allowed in your country. For those who want to use the parts shown here, the link to Z-RAM’s shop is in the video description. Now it is time for the first test.

Umarex HDR50/TR50 baseline with the standard barrel
Here is the HDR50. There is no Z-Extension in it. The block has been removed, and there is no valve, so it is completely open here. Nothing else has been installed; the standard barrel is still in place. A fresh capsule is put in.
Now the Z50 projectiles are loaded. You simply load them from behind; they fit perfectly. With new drums, they are a bit harder to insert. That was done deliberately so that they do not slip out. After the first few shots, they go in as easily as you can see here. Z-RAM has not modified the drum. They simply sit perfectly after just a few uses.
To recap: no Z-Extension, no block, no valve, the standard barrel and a fresh capsule. The capsule has now been pierced, the chronograph is set to FPS, and the first test begins.
The first FPS reading is unclear in the original captions; the stated energy is 13 J. Then: 239 FPS, 217 FPS, 196 FPS, 179 FPS, and 179 FPS or an error.
Umarex HDR50/TR50 with one Z-Extension and the standard barrel
Z-RAM will now put in the Z-Extension and a new capsule without changing anything else.
The Z-Extension is now screwed in. The brass cap was simply taken off, the Z-Extension was put on, and the brass cap was put back on. You can do that from the outside without opening the case. The standard barrel is still in place, and the block and valve are removed. Z-RAM now puts in a fresh capsule.
The Z50 projectiles are used again. Everything spins great, and it is time for the next test. The capsule is pierced: 290 FPS, 17 J; 274 FPS; error. That was three shots. Already empty. There is not much left; it was not enough for the shot.
The Z-Extension and chamber fill with air, and the air flows out with every shot. As you have seen, that has already produced an energy surge, but the capsule is emptying quickly—twice as fast now.
To use all the energy, it is therefore also advisable to attach the tuning barrel when using the Z-Extension. That means the longer barrel, either with the extension or even with the sniper extension, in order to use the entire air capacity. This was the best example: there was not enough air for the fourth shot. Now it is time for the next test to see how it performs.
Umarex HDR50/TR50 tuning-barrel test without the Z-Extension
Z-RAM has removed the Z-Extension and installed the tuning barrel. It goes in exactly the same way as the standard barrel was put back in at the beginning of the video.
The Z-Extension allowed three or four shots here. That is also because the valve and, of course, the block were taken out. If the modified pin is now added, there will be more shots again, but at slightly lower FPS. Z-RAM already showed how the Z-Extension and modified pin work together in the previous video. There were a lot more shots there, and good results were also achieved. Watch that video again; Z-RAM cannot put 20 different variations in one video. This video is simply intended to show the Z-Extension and how it behaves with the different combinations.
Here, the valves are open: no block, no valve, no Z-Extension, but the tuning barrel. Otherwise, nothing has changed. The Z50 projectiles are loaded again. Everything turns, and a new capsule is put in.
Now for the next test: 318 FPS, 20 J; 271 FPS; 185 FPS; 185 FPS or an error; 64 FPS. That is it; there is nothing more. This time it was five shots, with the last two being pretty weak.
That was not bad either: the maximum here was 318 FPS, just because of the tuning barrel with its tuning extension. The Z-Extension was not fitted; the test with the Z-Extension will follow in a moment. The tuning barrel is also available to buy in Z-RAM’s shop. Another sniper extension is available to buy as well, but that comes later. Z-RAM will put the Z-Extension back in, and then it will be time to see what results follow.
Umarex HDR50/TR50 tuning barrel with one Z-Extension
The Z-Extension is now reinstalled. The tuning-barrel cover, a kind of shroud, is also installed and is available in Z-RAM’s shop. This handle will be available in the shop soon; it is not available yet. However, the cover for the normal tuning barrel is already available to buy.
To summarize again, there is now the tuning barrel with the normal extension that comes with it. The Z-Extension is installed, the block is gone, and the valve is gone. A fresh capsule is put in, followed by the projectiles.
Doesn’t that look totally awesome, even without the handle? It would look totally cool if you suddenly pulled something like that out of your pants. Now let’s see what results it produces. Thank you. It is now ready to fire.
374 FPS, 28 J; 357 FPS; the next FPS number is unclear in the original captions; 263 FPS. That is it: four shots, four decent shots.
These are decent results when you keep in mind the projectiles used here—such pointy things. No matter which way around you get them, they weigh 4.3 g, which is definitely better than anything round. In any case, another increase could be seen.
Z-RAM thinks it looks pretty cool sticking out that way. The appearance does not bother Z-RAM at all, and certainly not now that it is black. Z-RAM will now attach a second Z-Extension to see what effect that has.
Umarex HDR50/TR50 with two Z-Extensions and the sniper extension
The second Z-Extension is now installed, along with the sniper extension. The sniper extension is screwed between the tuning barrel and the extension included with the tuning barrel. Here are the tuning barrel, the sniper extension and the second part of the tuning barrel: the extension, along with the tuning-barrel cover. You can buy all of these from Z-RAM. The grip is not available yet, but will be soon. As stated, there are two Z-Extensions.
The whole setup now uses a 12 g CO2 capsule. Let’s see how many shots it can provide. It is a very fresh capsule. Otherwise, nothing has changed here: the block is still gone, and the valve is gone, but there are two Z-Extensions.
The sniper extension can be screwed in between; you can screw in as many as you want. The same applies to the Z-Extension. With a 12 g CO2 capsule, however, that stops making sense at a certain point, and then you have to convert to HPA. That way, you can keep improving further and further by screwing Z-Extensions and sniper extensions in between and, of course, changing the HPA pressure at the regulator. That will come later.
Otherwise, Z-RAM thinks the whole thing looks pretty cool. It is handy: you could take this front off, carry it with you somehow, and then screw it on. However, it should do more than look cool. Let’s see what results it can achieve.
Here are the Z50 projectiles. The fresh capsule is pierced: 405 FPS, 34 J; 341 FPS; 315 FPS; 212 FPS. That is it.
Umarex HDR50/TR50: stated 35 J result, package plans and Part 3
Those were today’s tests. With this setup, you can achieve 35 J with just one 12 g CO2 capsule. Using the Z50 projectiles turns the HDR50 into a serious device.
All the parts you need to create this setup from your HDR50 can be found in Z-RAM’s shop. In the future, all the parts for this setup will also be offered in one package, so you do not have to spend long thinking about what you need and can order a complete package. Check out the shop; the link is in the video description. There you will also find many other parts and ammunition for other launchers.
In the next video, Z-RAM will show how you can convert the whole thing to HPA and achieve even higher results. It will also show the various conversion options for the HDR50 and similar markers. Of course, it will be checked on the chronograph again.
Stay tuned, subscribe to the channel and leave a thumbs-up. Until next time, from Z-RAM. Thank you.
