Z-Extension for the Umarex HDR50/TR50: The Original Housing-Adaptation Demonstration

This article preserves the original 2022 demonstration, its prototype and performance statements, and its contemporary promotions. Pre-order dates and discounts refer to that historical presentation.

Z-Extension for the Umarex HDR50/TR50 and other Umarex models

Welcome to the Z-RAM YouTube channel. Daniel demonstrates use of the Z-Extension for the Umarex HDR50/TR50 and also for most other Umarex models, such as the HDP50 and HDR68/TR68. This demonstration specifically shows how he adapted the housing so the Z-Extension fits.

There are different ways to do this. The theoretical alternative described here is to clamp the assembly and drill into it from above with a 16 mm drill; the exact clamping tool is unclear in the source. Daniel did not use that method, to avoid destroying anything else inside.

He did the work with a file and a saw, which is the method shown here. The other tool shown could, of course, also be used and would probably be a little faster. However, it allows less careful work, and a mistake can happen in no time. That is why he works by hand. Someone who can handle that other tool well would, of course, work much faster than in this video, which uses the simplest tools, such as the file shown.

Installation in other models requires some improvisation. Daniel may make videos about those in the future. For now, the demonstration is offered as inspiration for considering how it could be implemented for another model.

The original 2022 Z-Extension pre-order and shop announcements

There will probably be something special from Z-RAM again in the future, but Daniel does not want to reveal too much yet. That will come in future videos. Viewers are invited to subscribe and check Z-RAM on Facebook from time to time, where the latest news will always be posted.

At the time of this video, the Z-Extension is still available with a pre-order discount because delivery will not begin until mid-October 2022. The discount will be removed as soon as it arrives.

The original Umarex HDR50/TR50 installation demonstration

All the screws shown here are loosened. With the part inside exposed, the barrel is removed, followed by the plastic part shown here and then the entire assembly.

The plug can now be opened here. It fits Daniel's setup very well. For this installation, adding some screw adhesive is best.

The block inside has already been removed. The valve is already installed, and the PowerPin is already in place. Daniel has now removed the cap and screwed on the extension. The assembly can now be screwed back on here.

The appealing feature described here is that, with a long HD-marker setup and a long barrel, joining two Z-Extensions could also pay off. The source states that as many as desired can be screwed together because they always fit at the rear. This gives about twice the volume, with three, four or five also described as possible. There will, however, be a limit somewhere beyond which it no longer makes sense. With HP and a long barrel, two or three Z-Extensions could well lead to further increases.

A little adhesive is also applied here, and the part is installed. The next question is how it will fit into the housing.

Marking and adapting the HDR50/TR50 housing with hand tools

There are several ways to do this. One version is demonstrated here, beginning with marking the housing. A small cut is then made on both sides as a mark.

It does not have to be perfect; for now, it is just an approximate cut. The lid is then put back on.

Both lines are extended a little. The diameter here is 16 mm. An 8 mm mark is then made again, but the precise marking instruction is unclear in the source.

The easiest and fastest way would use the other tool shown. For the demonstration, Daniel uses the small file and saw; that will probably work well too.

Normally, holding it in the screw clamp would, of course, be better. However, this is plastic and could easily break in the clamp, which is why Daniel holds it by hand here.

The opening needs a little adjustment with the file. The small screws have just been removed, and the same work is now done here: a clean cut. It does not look perfect yet, but it will get better.

Material around the opening still needs work so that it fits. The file and the knife or saw probably work even better than the other tool, because they allow more careful work.

It is now perfectly closed all around and looks clean. It still looks stylish, with hardly a visible gap. Daniel will definitely leave it this way.

The barrel is put back in, followed by all the screws, and the work is done. It really is not a lot of work, and the result does not look ugly. On the contrary, Daniel thinks it looks cool.

The prototype, stated production benefit and Z.50 test combination

The extension shown is only the prototype Daniel made by hand. The units from the manufacturer will have a little more space inside the extension than this handmade version. This means that all the tests being performed or already performed will show slightly more performance with the finished product delivered to customers.

Z-RAM tested the setup with its Z.50 projectiles, already shown in other videos. At the time, they are available only for pre-order, and all pre-orders until October 2022 are always discounted.

The Z.50 projectiles and the Z-Extension make a really cool combination. With the tuning kit and the tuning barrel lying somewhere nearby, it is a really cool setup.
